DEQA-VET: Academic Research

Academic Research

Qualified vocational education and training facilitates effective entry to the world of work and provides the basis for successful occupational and personal development.

Against the background of demographic developments and structural and economic change and in the light of a growing requirement for well qualified skilled workers, it is necessary to have a vocational education and training system which is adaptable.

The aims of vocational education and training research are to identify the major challenges to innovation within the German VET system and to develop specific options for the structural improvement of vocational training.

Pursuant to § 84 of the Vocational Training Act (BBiG), therefore, the functions of VET research should include the following:
  • Observation of domestic, European and international developments in vocational education and training
  • Identification of requirements with regard to the contents and aims of VET
  • Prepare the ground for further developments in VET with regard to the changes which have taken place in economic, societal and technical requirements.
